In many cases, we can't just guess the form of the potential, and calculating it by explicit integration might feel daunting. However, if the setup contains some boundaries which are specified by simple conditions (in the appropriate coordinate system), then the solutions to Laplace's equation factorize into independent (simpler) pieces.
We illustrate the idea by simple examples.
